Why work with an Italian drone operator?

Since 2021 the same EASA drone rules apply across Europe, but each country manages its own airspace. In Italy this is done by ENAC (Civil Aviation Authority) and ENAV (Air Navigation Services).

Italy is full of airports, helipads, parks and cities of art, so large areas are restricted. In about 8 out of 10 cases, a foreign crew hoping to fly over a city of art or a national park cannot get the authorisations in time on its own.

Requests go to several offices, some in Rome, and must be sent by Italian certified email (PEC). Once ENAC and ENAV approve, the permits go to the local Prefecture as well.

  • We check the D-Flight zones and the local rules
  • We request the ENAC and ENAV authorisations
  • We inform the Local Police and the Prefecture
  • We fly with certified pilots and insured drones (cover up to €2 million)
  • Near airports we fly C5 drones with parachute and flight termination
  • We deliver footage in up to 8K, ProRes and Cinema RAW

Frequently asked questions

Can a foreign pilot fly a drone in Italy?

Operators registered in another EU country can fly in the Open category with their own registration; operators from outside the EU must first register with ENAC. Outside the Open category, and in most cities, parks and airport areas, you need Italian authorisations that are hard to obtain without a local operator. We can fly for you, or support your crew.

Do I need a permit to film with a drone in Rome, Venice or Florence?

Almost always. Large parts of these cities are inside airport zones, restricted areas or protected sites. Use the checker above, then ask us: we request the permits and inform the Local Police and the Prefecture.

How long does it take to get permits?

It depends on the area: from a few days in simple cases to a few weeks near airports or sensitive sites. Contact us early and we will tell you the timing for your locations.

Can you fly over crowds or events?

No drone may fly over crowds in Italy. Near people we use the procedures and certificates required by EU rules (STS-01 and STS-02) and plan the shots with you.

Are your flights insured?

Yes. Every flight is covered by aviation insurance with limits of at least €2 million, and every drone is registered with ENAC.

How quickly will you reply?

We reply within 24 hours, in English.
