Drone filming in the Dolomites

Peaks, passes and alpine villages: the Dolomites are one of the most spectacular places in Europe to film from the air. Mountain flying, however, has its own rules.

Where the restrictions are

In the mountains the main constraints are not cities but parks, airfields and helicopters. Valley towns such as Bolzano and Trento lie almost entirely inside zones linked to their airports, while the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park and several nature parks and biotopes appear as protected zones on D-Flight. Rescue and tourist helicopters fly low and often: a good spotter and a radio are part of our standard kit.

Mountain-specific challenges

  • Height is measured from the ground: near cliffs the 120 m limit changes quickly
  • Wind, cold and altitude reduce battery life and stability
  • Ski areas and huts are crowded in season
  • Some parks have their own rules and require the park authority’s consent

We have flown above 4,000 metres on glaciers for fashion shoots and know how to plan for altitude, cold and changing weather.

How long does it take?

Outside protected zones a shoot can be organised quickly; inside parks or near airfields allow a few weeks for consents and authorisations.

Shots that work well

  • Golden-hour peaks and passes
  • Winding mountain roads for automotive shoots
  • Alpine lakes and forests
  • Villages and ski slopes in winter

How we work with foreign crews

We can fly for you with our own crew and drones, or support your team on the ground: location scouting, permits, safety plan and liaison with the Local Police and the Prefecture. Everything is handled in English, with one point of contact.

Need a specific service? See aerial filming in Italy or browse all our drone services in Italy.

Need to fly near an airport? In the red zones near Italian airports only class C5 drones with parachute and flight termination system may fly. We have them in our fleet, request the permits from ENAC and ENAV and always inform the Local Police and the Prefecture.

Flying a drone in Dolomites: FAQ

Can I fly a drone in the Dolomites?

In many areas yes, within the Open category limits; national and nature parks, valley airfields and helipads are restricted. Check D-Flight and the park rules before flying.

Do batteries work in the cold?

Cold reduces battery capacity. We bring heated cases and many spare batteries and plan shorter flights at altitude.

We are a foreign crew with our own drone pilot. Can you help?

Yes. We can fly for you with our crew and equipment, or support your pilot. Operators from other EU/EASA countries flying under a standard scenario must send ENAC a copy of their declaration; those holding an operational authorisation must apply to ENAC for cross-border operations at least 60 days in advance (current fee: €353 plus stamp duty). Pilots from outside the EU need EU certificates: national licences are not recognised. Working with us usually removes all of this.

How fast do you reply?

Within 24 hours, with a proposal and a realistic timeline for permits.
