How an aerial shoot in Italy works

Most cinematic locations in Italy sit inside at least one D-Flight zone: historic centres near airports, protected parks, coastlines with heliports, military areas. That is why the first thing we do is a feasibility check on the exact coordinates and flight heights you need. If an authorisation is required, we file it with ENAC (and with ENAV, the Air Force or the park authority when needed) and coordinate with the Local Police and the Prefecture, who must not be surprised by a drone over a crowd or a monument.

On the day, one of our pilots flies and, for complex moves, a dedicated camera operator controls the gimbal. We bring spare batteries, a backup drone and monitors for the director. If the weather turns bad we postpone at no extra cost.

Cameras and formats

For high-end productions we fly the DJI Inspire 3 with the Zenmuse X9-8K Air: full-frame sensor, interchangeable lenses, Apple ProRes RAW and CinemaDNG. For fast and discreet work in town we use the DJI Mavic 4 Pro and, where the weight class matters, a sub-250 g drone. We deliver in the codec, colour space and frame rate you need, with LUTs on request, via cloud.

  • Up to 8K, ProRes RAW and Cinema DNG
  • Dual operator (pilot + camera) on request
  • Live 1080i feed for broadcast
  • Night shoots with the right authorisations
  • Drones for indoor and confined spaces
  • Spare drone and batteries on every job

Frequently asked questions

How much does aerial filming in Italy cost?

It depends on the location, permits, drone and crew size. As a rough guide, a full day of aerial filming starts from about €800–900 plus VAT; we send a tailored quote within 24 hours.

Do I need a permit to fly a drone there?

Almost always for professional work. Italy publishes its drone geographical zones on D-Flight, the official portal: airports, heliports, military areas, parks and sensitive sites. Outside the Open category, and inside most of these zones, you need an authorisation or an airspace reservation (ENAC procedure ATM-09A). We check the exact spot, file the requests and always inform the Local Police and the Prefecture, so the shoot is not stopped halfway.

Can you fly over people or crowds?

No. EU rules forbid flying over assemblies of people with any drone. Near the public we plan the scene, keep safety distances and use the procedures of the European standard scenarios, for which our pilots are certified (EU STS-01 and STS-02).

Are your flights insured?

Yes. Every flight is covered by aviation liability insurance with limits of at least €2 million, and every drone is registered with ENAC.

We are a foreign crew with our own drone pilot. Can you help?

Yes. We can fly for you with our crew and equipment, or support your pilot. Operators from other EU/EASA countries flying under a standard scenario must send ENAC a copy of their declaration; those holding an operational authorisation must apply to ENAC for cross-border operations at least 60 days in advance (current fee: €353 plus stamp duty). Pilots from outside the EU need EU certificates: national licences are not recognised. Working with us usually removes all of this.

What happens if the weather is bad?

We cancel at no cost. If the forecast is uncertain, you decide whether to fly or postpone.

How fast do you reply?

Within 24 hours, with a proposal and a realistic timeline for permits.
