Everyone wants to fly a drone in Venice. Very few are authorised to. Here is why, and how professional productions get their aerial shots of the city and the lagoon.
We reply within 24 hours.

Source: our analysis of the official D-Flight geographical zones (data as of 9 September 2026). Check any Italian provincial capital with our interactive drone-zone checker.
The historic centre lies close to Venice Marco Polo airport and inside its controlled airspace; the Lido airfield and heliports add further zones over the lagoon. D-Flight data show that about 95% of the municipality is inside a drone geographical zone, and in about 21% an authorisation is needed even at ground level, including large parts of the historic centre.
In the red zones near the airport only class C5 drones with a parachute and a flight termination system may fly, under a specific authorisation. Our fleet includes them, and our pilots hold the EU STS-01 and STS-02 certificates required for these operations.
We have flown in Venice for national broadcasters, including in St Mark’s Square, and for international TV. Read our detailed guide on red zones, ATM-09 and STS-01 in Venice.
Count on several weeks for flights in the red zones of the historic centre, and less for the outer lagoon. Tell us your dates as early as possible: we will confirm feasibility within 24 hours.
We can fly for you with our own crew and drones, or support your team on the ground: location scouting, permits, safety plan and liaison with the Local Police and the Prefecture. Everything is handled in English, with one point of contact.

Need to fly near an airport? In the red zones near Italian airports only class C5 drones with parachute and flight termination system may fly. We have them in our fleet, request the permits from ENAC and ENAV and always inform the Local Police and the Prefecture.

Kenneth CessnaFacebook reviewIn practice no: the historic centre is inside restricted zones near the airport, and flights over crowds are forbidden. Police regularly seize drones.
Under the current rules, class C5 drones with parachute and flight termination system, flown by certified pilots under a specific authorisation. We have them in our fleet.
Yes. Take-off and landing from a moving boat is a specialised operation we perform regularly in the lagoon.
Yes. We can fly for you with our crew and equipment, or support your pilot. Operators from other EU/EASA countries flying under a standard scenario must send ENAC a copy of their declaration; those holding an operational authorisation must apply to ENAC for cross-border operations at least 60 days in advance (current fee: €353 plus stamp duty). Pilots from outside the EU need EU certificates: national licences are not recognised. Working with us usually removes all of this.
Within 24 hours, with a proposal and a realistic timeline for permits.
