The rules on the coast

Restrictions on the coast are patchy rather than total. Naples is almost entirely inside drone zones because of Capodichino airport (about 36% of the municipality needs an authorisation from ground level), while in Salerno only about 9% does. Between them, helipads, marine protected areas and nature reserves create local zones that change from bay to bay.

The bigger issue is people: beaches, harbours and village streets are crowded for most of the year, and flying over crowds is always forbidden. Many of the best shots are taken from the sea, with take-off and landing from a boat.

What it means for your shoot

  • Check each location on D-Flight: two neighbouring villages may have different rules
  • Prefer early mornings and off-season dates
  • Marine protected areas may need the authority’s consent
  • Ferries, helicopters and seaplanes share the airspace near the islands
  • Local Police and the Harbour Office should be informed for flights from boats

How long does it take?

Shoots outside restricted zones can be organised within days; flights near Naples or inside protected areas need more time. Tell us your locations and we will map them for you.

Shots that work well

  • Villages clinging to the cliffs
  • Yachts and coves from the sea
  • Terraced lemon groves and coastal roads
  • The Gulf of Naples with Vesuvius

How we work with foreign crews

We can fly for you with our own crew and drones, or support your team on the ground: location scouting, permits, safety plan and liaison with the Local Police and the Prefecture. Everything is handled in English, with one point of contact.

Need a specific service? See aerial filming in Italy or browse all our drone services in Italy.

Need to fly near an airport? In the red zones near Italian airports only class C5 drones with parachute and flight termination system may fly. We have them in our fleet, request the permits from ENAC and ENAV and always inform the Local Police and the Prefecture.

Flying a drone in Amalfi Coast: FAQ

Can I fly a drone in Positano or Amalfi?

Some areas are outside D-Flight zones, but crowds, private property and local rules often limit flights. Check each spot and never fly over people.

Can you film from a boat?

Yes, we take off and land from boats regularly; it is often the best way to film the coast.

We are a foreign crew with our own drone pilot. Can you help?

Yes. We can fly for you with our crew and equipment, or support your pilot. Operators from other EU/EASA countries flying under a standard scenario must send ENAC a copy of their declaration; those holding an operational authorisation must apply to ENAC for cross-border operations at least 60 days in advance (current fee: €353 plus stamp duty). Pilots from outside the EU need EU certificates: national licences are not recognised. Working with us usually removes all of this.

How fast do you reply?

Within 24 hours, with a proposal and a realistic timeline for permits.
